New Patient Guide
Everything you need to know before your first visit, and why there's never any judgment.
Your first visit includes a comprehensive oral exam, digital X-rays, a professional cleaning, and a review of everything we find, with cost estimates before any treatment is recommended. Nothing gets done without your understanding and consent. Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and a list of current medications.
Your first visit, step by step.
We know that coming to a new dentist, especially after a long time away, takes courage. Here's exactly what to expect so nothing catches you off guard.
What to bring
We verify your insurance benefits before your appointment and explain every cost before treatment begins, no surprises. You can also browse typical Dallas-area price ranges for common procedures before you call.

The most common thing new patients say when they call us is some version of "I'm embarrassed, I haven't been in years." We hear this every single week. Our response is always the same: we're glad you're here. We don't count the years. We don't lecture. We help.
If dental anxiety is part of what's kept you away, Dr. Houshmand is certified in conscious sedation dentistry. We can make your appointment genuinely comfortable, not just bearable, but comfortable.

Common new patient questions.
Please bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of any current medications. If you have previous dental X-rays from another office, we'd love to receive them beforehand, your previous dentist can send them electronically. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete your intake paperwork.
Most new patient appointments last 60–90 minutes. This includes a comprehensive oral exam, digital X-rays, a full dental cleaning, and time to discuss your dental history and any concerns. We never rush.
Absolutely not. We accept patients with or without insurance. For patients without coverage, we offer our Spring Valley Membership Plan an affordable annual plan with three tiers: Child Complete ($250/yr), Adult Complete ($325/yr), and Perio ($600/yr). Each plan covers preventive care including cleanings or perio maintenance, exams, and x-rays, plus 20% off all other services. You can also review our Cost Guide for starting-from price ranges on common procedures before your first visit.
Most adults benefit from professional cleanings every 6 months. Patients with a history of gum disease, higher cavity risk, or certain medical conditions may benefit from more frequent visits. We'll recommend a schedule that fits your specific needs.
Please don't let that stop you. We see patients who haven't visited a dentist in 5, 10, even 20 years, completely without judgment. We start with a thorough assessment, explain exactly what we see, and work with you on a realistic, prioritized plan. If dental anxiety is part of what's kept you away, our dental anxiety & sedation options page explains how we make visits easier. The important thing is that you're here now.
Cost should never stand between you and your dental health.
We work with 30+ PPO insurance plans and review your benefits before treatment begins, so you always know what you'll pay before we start. For patients without insurance, or when treatment isn't fully covered, we offer several ways to make care affordable.
